"Get away from here Princess!" A voice called as you were tending to the garden. Looking towards the left, you saw a group of soldiers running into the sound of gunfire. Filled with worry, you quickly ran inside where your personal advisor, Arthur Kirkland, was talking to one of the head knights. As he looked up at you, an expression of relief was soon replaced by concern.

"We need to get you out of the castle Miss ______. Quickly, before they start advancing here."  He said, grabbing the map from the knight's hands. Leading you down to the kitchen, you were still confused about the situation.

"What's happening, Arthur? We haven't fought in any wars since a hundred years ago." You asked as the both of you walked through a dark passage hidden under the barrels of wheat.

"The damn Kingdom of the East has started staged a rebellion. The turned their bloody forces against us during our time of famine." He replied, his voice filled with hatred. You unconsciously rubbed your stomach. Food had been getting scarcer for the last decade and it had been harder to feed the soldiers and the people. This was the worst time to be attacked by any kingdom. As he lead you out of the passage into the sewers, the screams and cries above we're echoing in your ears. Unable to take anymore stress, your legs suddenly collapsed under you. Hearing the drop, Arthur turned around with alarm.

"Miss ______ are you okay?! I know you're tired but its only a little closer." He said as he watched you try to get back up, but to no avail. As you saw him look back toward the passage, you could tell he was worried. Leaning on his shoulder, you could finally walk alongside him. As you saw sunlight ahead, the faint sound of footsteps were heard from behind.

"We must run now. Just bare the pain for a little bit." He said as you limped out of the sewers into the nearby forest. Passing by tree after tree, you could tell you were getting farther and farther from the castle.

"Arthur, how far do we have to run?" You asked as he let the both of you have a short rest.

"Until we make it to the next village. There will be someone there who will help us pass through enemy territory. Everything will be just fine-" Suddenly he was caught off as a bullet hit his leg.

"Arthur!" You screamed as you tried to stop the bleeding. Looking where the bullet came from, you could see five enemy soldiers waiting for commands.

"Miss _____, just leave me. You need to travel back to the King and Queen." He said painfully as crimson blood oozed from his injured leg. As much as you hated blood, you couldn't let your one true friend die because of you. Pulling off a large section of fabric from your satin dress, you covered the wound hastily.

"I'm not letting you die Arthur. Please, just stay still." You said as he winced at the pressure being put on his leg. Glancing to your left, the soldiers from before were starting to charge towards you.

This is it. You thought as five guns were aimed at your direction, preparing to kill you in a heartbeat. Suddenly a green light covered the two of you, blocking any dangers from hitting you.

"Huh, where did the two go?"

"Fuck! Did we lose them?"

"Let's just search somewhere else. They couldn't have gone far."

One by one, voices filled with confusion were starting to leave. Turning to your injured friend you saw he was sweating uncontrollably.

"Dammit, that spell took too much of my energy." He whispered to himself as you took another piece of fabric from your dress to wipe his forehead.

"Wait, you used black magic in your condition?! You big idiot!" You angrily cried as the person in front of you was growing paler and paler. Grabbing your hand, he softly kissed your wrist with a slow motion.

"I swore an oath to protect you from anything ______...even if it cost my life in the process." He softly spoke, making tears run down your face. Unable to speak, you laid your head on his chest, hearing his heartbeats grow slower and slower. As you held his hand, you prayed for any sort of miracle.

After what seemed like hours however, the soft thumps just...disappeared.

He's gone... You numbly thought as the sky began to rain. You slowly got up as you felt the raindrops start to mix with your tears. Not able to bare the sight of his lifeless body, you looked in the opposite direction and ran. You ran and ran until you ended up near a small spring, where your heart was beating fast, your legs were throbbing with pain, and your tears were streaming wildly. Falling on your knees, the sound of a soft, windy like voice entered your ears.

"Hello, dear child. What's wrong?" The voice asked, filled with concern. Looking up, you saw a glistening white fairy flying right in front of you holding a small box. Trusting the magical creature, you told her about what had happened just recently. When you were done, she smiled.

"Princess, do you know where you are?" She asked, making you shake your head. "You are at the Emerald Springs, the place of wishes. Where desires become actuality."

"Really? If there was such a thing, wouldn't there be many people looking for this place?" You questioned the magical creature. "Surely this place would at the least have one rumour about it's existence."

"It is only opened to those who have the purest wishes. A wish that does not want to corrupt the world than it is already." She said as she touched your heart which gave a faint green light. "Although black magic was used to protect this heart, you still are a pure soul. You will be able to wish for your one true desire."

Remebering what had happened only a couple hours ago, you started tearing up again. You were determined to try not to cry anymore.

"What about Arthur?" You asked, which the fairy shook her head.

"I'm sorry. Even magic can't interfere with the natural cycle of life and death." She said sadly, making tears start to drip down your face. Trying to wipe them off quickly, you started to become frustrated.

"Then what can I wish for?!" You screamed, not caring that you were on the edge of breaking apart and yelling at a magical being.

Suddenly, the fairy touched your tears, which seemed to glow a bright white. "Sadly we can not interfere with the cycle of life and death, but we can do something after they have died. Reincarnation, as you humans say, is possible." She explained to you as you were starting to calm down.

"Reincarnation?" You questioned. "Meaning that Arthur will be able to live again in another era, as another person?"

She nodded. As you were starting to get your hopes up, she spoke again.

"But, there's a consequence such a wish, young one." She said depressingly. "You must be willing to give up your own life, and participate in the reincarnation ceremony also."

"Huh? But that means…"

The glowing fairy's eye stared down to the ground, a smile of heartache on her face. "You will not be able remember him. You may not even be able to live in the same era as him. This life shall be your only knowledge of him unless the fates allow it."

Falling to your knees, you buried your face in your hands and closed your eyes. Memories upon memories of your deceased friend piled up to the tops of your mind, your heart overcome with emotions of many kinds. You knew you would want to reminiscent this moment as much as you could.

Your decision had already been made.

"I will take that wish and its risks." You said undeniably, slowly standing up and staring straight at the glowing eyes before you. "The kingdom will face many hardships, but I am willing to drop my title and my life for my dear friend. He is worth the life I will give."

She looked at you bewildered, many minutes before she nodded slowly with sorrow. "Your wish...I will not object."

Laying one hand softly on your forehead and another in the air, she closed her eyes as she started draining the two spirits, one bright and one dull. As you started feeling sleepier and sleepier, you looked one last time at the enchanting color in her other hand.

What a beautiful emerald it was.
